Are Unlimited Design Services Really “Unlimited”?
The premise is simple yet tempting: unlimited design requests at a fixed monthly rate. But how do unlimited design services actually work in reality?
Although millions of people are already using it, on-demand design services are still a mystery to some. And the part that confuses most people: the word unlimited.
TL;DR
Unlimited design companies don’t offer unlimited designs, but unlimited requests and revisions. The pace of work and expected turnaround varies from company to company. Still, it’s fair to say that you can generally get a lot more work done for a much lower price compared to working with freelancers or traditional design agencies.
Still not sure how unlimited design services work? Here’s a quick rundown:
- You pay a flat monthly fee, usually between $400 and $2,000.
- You can make unlimited design requests and revisions.
- A team of designers handles your projects (some services also allow you to request designers).
- You can pause and cancel your subscription as you please - no contracts or binding commitments.
What are unlimited design services?
So, you think unlimited design services sound too good to be true?
Of course, there are companies and companies out there. We can’t speak for others, but as a veteran in the unlimited design arena, here’s what we at ManyPixels can promise you.
1. Unlimited requests
While you will be working with people and not robots, unlimited design services allow you to make as many requests as you want. Depending on the service’s estimated daily output, this can mean several graphics a day.
The ability to request graphics whenever you need them also means that you can stay on top of your content production, and never experience creative bottlenecks in case you need a last-minute graphic.
So, how many designs can you get with ManyPixels? Here’s our estimated daily output.
- 2-3 social media graphics
- or 1-2 custom illustrations (more if they are not too complex)
- or 2-3 display ads
- or 4-5 pages of a brochure, e-book, report or slide deck
- or 1 GIF draft (2-3 sec)
- or 1-2 flyers
- or 1 logo draft
- or the first draft of a landing page

2. Unlimited revisions
Believe it or not, revisions are possibly an even more important part of this graphic design package deal.
When you hire freelance graphic designers, you often have a set number of revisions in the project price. This means that you could end up getting charged extra, for something as simple as a color change.
With unlimited design service, you can keep iterating until you’re satisfied.
3. A team of designers at your fingertips
While unlimited design services can’t offer you unlimited designs, they do give you plenty of choice. They employ a team of designers, with versatile skills and styles.
So, whatever type of graphic design you’re after, there’s a good chance they can help. You also don’t need to waste time inspecting their portfolio and trial tasks. Top unlimited design companies like ManyPixels have a rigorous vetting system to ensure only qualified professionals get hired.
4. Quality assurance
This is certainly not the case with every graphic design subscription company out there. However, the design subscription at ManyPixels also includes a sophisticated quality assurance process.
Our dedicated project managers (senior designers) oversee every design project and make sure each graphic fulfills a set of standards before it’s submitted to the clients for review.
What unlimited design services are not?
They’re fast, affordable, and professional - so what’s the catch with unlimited design services? Although this revolutionary model has plenty of perks, here are some common limitations and exclusions of unlimited design.
1. An unlimited number of designs at a fixed price
Remember, unlimited design services are companies that employ people, not artificial intelligence. So, no matter how talented and experienced, no designer can create an infinite number of designs daily.
Thanks to a workload and lots of experience with time management, these designers can still produce a solid amount of work in a relatively short time. However, designers will typically work on your projects from 2-4 hours per day, depending on the service and type of subscription.
2. Full-service marketing agencies
Do you need copywriting services? Market research? Regular creative brainstorming meetings?
Then a graphic design subscription is not for you. If you need someone to guide you through the whole process of creating your brand and marketing strategy, then you might want to consult a traditional marketing agency. Sure, the price tag is a lot bigger, but it does come with additional perks.
Also, don’t forget that the scope of services varies from company to company. If you have a specific project in mind, make sure to check whether your on-demand design company of choice can handle it.
Common exclusions include complex video editing and animation, 3D design, typography, and product design.
3. Product design agencies
Speaking of, although some unlimited companies offer UI/UX design services, you should bear in mind that physical and complex digital products might require a different type of service.
That said, unlimited design can be a great way to minimize scope creep and speed up product design. For example, should you need certain elements, such as brand design or mockups, these professional graphic design services can be a fantastic option.
4. An affordable option for a single project
While there are exceptions in terms of big projects (e.g. logo or website design), unlimited design services are not the best choice if you only need a single project done.
Pairing with a freelancer, or even using online templates could be more cost-effective for one-off projects, such as banner ads or social media posts.
This is because a design subscription is created with the long-term in mind. You’ll really get your money’s worth if you use the service for everyday designs, and a variety of projects and/or brands.
Final word
Although some will find the term “unlimited design” misleading at first, this isn’t a fair assessment. Although you won’t get an unlimited number of polished designs, you do have access to unlimited requests and revisions.
As so many of our clients find, this is a huge opportunity for expanding your creativity and enhancing your team’s capabilities.
ManyPixels design subscriptions start at just $599! That’s a fraction of the cost you’d pay with a traditional design agency, and often the price of just one project a freelancer would charge.
