How to Request an Ebook Design

To help you design noteworthy e-book concepts, there are a number of different elements that need to be addressed. Content and design go hand in hand, avoid focusing on one over the other. A poorly written content piece thatโ€™s beautifully designed might be a failure, same as an engaging, smart e-book that is awfully designed. Both can push your readers away.
Before we start designing, we need to establish ground rules for the brand style. This includes elements like your fonts, header size, main body text size, colors, company or partner logos, icons, and photography/imagery.

Below is our latest guide, some tips & tricks, and the steps we take to ensure eBooks are created with design, content, and your readers in mind.๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป

1. Project name

This first section is similar to the subject line of an email - the more concise you can be, the better! Your project might be about a 40 pages eBook or just the front cover design that should catch the attention of your readers and encourage them to download the eBook or to turn to the next page. Examples: ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป

  • 15 pages SaaS startup eBook design
  • Lead generating eBook redesign
  • NVS - eBook Brand Updating - 5 Love Languages
  • Academic eBook front cover design

2. Select your brand profile.

You will be asked to select which brand profile you would like to link with each brief. Everything from font and text size to custom graphics, images, and colors must be addressed. If you have an official brand manual, please select it here. This will help us better understand your brand's visual strategy and will dictate what style we approach when creating your graphics.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป ย You can choose an already created brand profile, allowing your designer to have access to those brand assets you want added or used as inspiration, making the process faster and easier.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป ย You can request a completely new visual identity, in which case you can always create a new brand profile or simply use the upload button below for any designs, assets, or inspiration we should follow.ย

3. Describe the projectย

This section of the creative brief must contain all the necessary information to answer the most important question of all ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป ย What is your eBook about?ย

Below are a few other questions that might help: ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป

  • What is it that you want to obtain?ย
  • What is your target market? Who are your clients and what do they think about you?
  • What feelings and associations do you want to evoke?
  • What are the functional and emotional benefits it will deliver to customers? What problem does it solve?ย

Do you have any specific graphic elements that you want to see in your eBook?
The most efficient approach for getting back great concepts from your designer is simply.. communication. Your assigned designer/illustrator cannot yet read your mind so the more into detail you can go regarding what you need and how it fits into your content, the faster you will obtain a perfect matching end result. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป

4. Copy, size, and formatย

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป How many graphics/pages do you need?
As obvious as it may seem, this information is essential. Whether itโ€™s only one illustration for a cover design or a 40 pages digital story, your Manypixels assigned designer or illustrator needs to know! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป What size and format do you need?
What size do you need the eBook to be and what file formats do you need us to provide? This information is essential to know from the beginning of the project so that no time is wasted on incorrect formats. Example: A4 portrait .pdf

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป What's the exact copy you want to include?
Titles, subtitles, paragraphs, we need to have access to your final content. ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป
Before you submit the brief to your designer you need to mention also what graphics or images you want to show. Once you have a solid plan for what each page/slide should contain, your designer can start thinking about the concept.

๐Ÿ’กTips & Tricks! Does your design project require custom illustrations/icons?
If the answer is yes, don't forget to mention in the brief all details related, so that an illustrator along with a graphics designer can be assigned to your project right from the start, avoiding delays.ย

5. Inspirationย

What other similar eBook concepts do you like and why? You can upload them as attachments, share them as links or even save them and select them as your brand profile.
You can also upload an eBook that you want to redesign.

๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป After you've successfully completed all sections of the brief and submitted the project, your assigned designer will start working on it and will deliver the first draft on the next business day (sometimes 2 for complex requests). If revisions are needed, no worries, you can easily communicate with your designer using the chat in the ManyPixels app.

๐Ÿ’กTips & Tricks! Your assigned illustrator will provide daily updates until the project is completed. Here is a rough estimate of what you can expect to receive on a daily basis:ย
